Jason Cornwell - Pastor

Jason and Abbye are no strangers to ministry. Jason grew up outside of Pittsburgh, PA, in a Christian home. He received his B.S. in Music Education from Bob Jones University and his Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary - Charlotte. After serving in a number of areas as a member at Downtown Presbyterian Church, he went on staff at Shannon Forest PCA (now Eastside PCA) and has spent the last 6.5 years as Assistant Pastor at Christ Community PCA in Simpsonville, SC. At Christ Community he lead worship, taught 3 year olds, preached, administered sacraments, and led a community group which has grown and multiplied. He was ordained as a teaching elder in the PCA in 2013. He also has a variety of experience in the non-profit, para-church, and corporate sectors. He’s usually talking sports (he bleeds black & gold), finding deals on hot wings, cracking Dad jokes, and/or playing with his children.

Abbye grew up in Watkinsville, GA, and her family regularly attended church. She received her B.A. in Religion and Minored in both History & Christian Education from Presbyterian College. She spent 6 years on staff with Campus Outreach Greenville where she helped launch a new chapter at Clemson University and later became Regional Women’s Director. She has taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, started Mentor Moms at her church, and coached other women in ministry. When not keeping tiny humans alive, Abbye is cheering on her beloved UGA Bulldogs (Go Dawgs!), enjoying a cup of coffee, or reading a great book.

Jason and Abbye are joined by their older son, Joseph, their younger son, Patrick, and their daughter, Ivye.

“Our prayers have been answered! We have been praying for years that God would plant a PCA church in North Augusta. Palmetto Presbytery is thrilled that the Lord has chosen and equipped Jason Cornwell to lead the charge as the church planter. Jason, along with those whom God brings, is committed to building a gospel-centered church that loves those far and near to the Lord. Thank you, Lord, for preparing the way and what you will accomplish through North Augusta Fellowship.”

— Rev. Kevin Thumpston, Church Planting Coordinator Palmetto Presbytery (PCA)

“To meet Jason is to immediately realize that you’ve likely met someone who absolutely loves people. To know Jason is to be convinced of that beyond any doubt. But what I love most about Jason is that it’s the gospel that energizes and sustains his love for people. To hear Jason preach is to see his passion for the gospel and his love for people come together in a winsomely compelling way. If I were looking for someone to plant a church in my city, Jason is the kind of man I’m looking for.”

— Rev. Dan Cruver, Director of Student & Family Ministries, Heritage Bible Church, Greer, SC.

"Our church is excited about sending Jason and Abbye out to launch a new church. Jason's combination of theological, relational, pastoral, and strategic gifts have been an asset to our church family for over six years. Among his greatest strengths is his wife Abbye. He and Abbye's heart for evangelism and discipleship should serve a new work very well."

— Rev. Paul L. Sanders, Senior Pastor, Christ Community Church, Simpsonville, SC and Former Chairman of the Mission to North America Committee, Calvary Presbytery
